Professor Rob Gray

July 2020

The CAAA pays tribute to the memory of Professor Rob Gray who recently passed away. Rob was a pioneer in the field of Sustainability Accounting, and the founder of the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR) and of the Social and Environmental Accounting (now Accountability) Journal. His work and mentorship has inspired social and environmental accounting research and will continue to do so for many years ahead. (Read more)

Professor Gerald A. Feltham

January 2020

The CAAA is saddened to hear of the passing of Jerry Feltham, professor emeritus of UBC. Jerry was instrumental in setting up the CAAA's journal Contemporary Accounting Research, and was later one of its editors. He will be sadly missed in the Canadian accounting community. We are grateful to Martin Wu of the University of Illinois for allowing the CAAA to post his warm tribute to Jerry here. (Read more)

Professor George Richard “Dick” Chesley

December 2022

The CAAA pays tribute to the memory of Professor George Richard “Dick” Chesley who recently passed away. Dick’s work was published in numerous prestigious journals and academic publications, and he authored several textbooks in managerial and financial accounting. Throughout his career, Dick was bestowed with many prestigious awards including the Saint Mary’s University Presidents Award for Exemplary Service and the L.S. Rosen Outstanding Educator Award given by the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, along with numerous distinguished grants and fellowships. 

He was a dedicated academic supervisor and mentor to his many students, and took great pride in supporting their education and celebrating their personal and professional accomplishments. Dick particularly enjoyed building collaborative relationships with students and academics in China, and was instrumental in establishing programs that opened up opportunities for Chinese students to visit and study in Canada. (Read more)
