EDUCATION

Education at the CAAA

Education at the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA) supports innovation, collaboration, and dialogue in accounting education across academia and practice. Through conference programming, committee‑led initiatives, and shared resources, the Association aims to support effective teaching and learning in a rapidly evolving professional environment.

Each year, Education‑related activities include the design and delivery of the Education Program for the CAAA Annual Conference, including the Call for Education Proposals and a range of session formats such as workshops, panels, and roundtable discussions. Beyond the conference, Education initiatives seek to create opportunities for connection and engagement throughout the year.

Governance and oversight of Education activities are provided through the CAAA’s committee structure.

ANNA CZEGLEDI
Education Committee Chair

It is an honour to serve as Education Chair of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA). I am excited to take on this role and to build on the strong foundation established by the Education Committee through the leadership, commitment, and contributions of its members.

This is an especially important time for accounting education in Canada, as we navigate the transition to a new CPA education and certification model alongside the rapid development of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. These changes are creating both new opportunities and new challenges for educators and students. I believe that navigating this changing environment requires collaboration not only among accounting educators but also between academia, the profession, and practice.

As Education Chair, I look forward to creating opportunities for educators to connect, exchange ideas, share innovative teaching practices, and learn from one another. One of my priorities will be supporting conversations about how we can prepare students for a rapidly evolving profession while continuing to develop the critical thinking, professional judgment, communication, and other human-centred skills that remain essential to accounting practice.

I see the CAAA Education Committee as an important space for bringing people and ideas together. By strengthening connections across institutions and between educators and practitioners, we can learn from one another, encourage innovation, support educational research and scholarship, and continue to advance accounting education in Canada.

I warmly invite CAAA members to share their ideas for educational initiatives, bring forward emerging issues and opportunities, and become involved in the Education Committee's work. I also welcome suggestions for how the Committee can better support our members and the broader accounting education community. The Committee is strongest when it reflects the ideas, experiences, and perspectives of our broader community.

I am very much looking forward to working with our Education Committee, CAAA members, students, and our partners in the profession as we continue this work together.

Education at the CAAA Annual Conference

Education sessions are a core part of the CAAA Annual Conference program, offering opportunities for members to share innovative teaching practices, explore emerging topics, and engage in meaningful dialogue on curriculum and pedagogy. The Education Committee issues an annual Call for Proposals inviting educators to contribute sessions to the CAAA Annual Conference.

Education programming at the CAAA Annual Conference is offered through a range of interactive formats designed to support knowledge sharing, discussion, and engagement among educators and practitioners.

  • Workshops and presentations: These sessions explore education‑related topics through structured presentations, panels, or interactive workshop formats. Sessions may be delivered as a single extended presentation or as paired presentations within a concurrent session block.
  • Education roundtables: Roundtable sessions are designed for small‑group discussion and exchange. Presenters remain at their tables while participants rotate between tables, allowing for repeated, focused conversations on specific education topics.

Further details on session formats and presenter expectations are provided as part of the annual Education Call for Proposals and presenter guidelines.

The 2026 CAAA Annual Conference brought together scholars, educators, practitioners, and emerging researchers in the inspiring setting of Banff, Alberta, to celebrate 50 years of influential Canadian accounting scholarship. The Education Program focused on the future of accounting education, with sessions on AI, data analytics, assessment design, student engagement, sustainability, experiential learning, and professional skills development. Attendees also participated in interactive roundtables on emerging challenges and opportunities in accounting education, including AI, ESG, and evolving skill requirements. The program featured updates from the CPA profession and on AcSB and CPA Canada learning resources, as well as publisher-led sessions showcasing new tools and approaches to support teaching, critical thinking, and professional judgment.
