FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

The CAAA does not conduct research directly or coordinate collaborations.

Research is carried out independently by CAAA member academics. The CAAA does not maintain a list of member research interests or manage collaborative research projects.

Postdoctoral fellows at Canadian universities may be eligible to apply, provided they maintain CAAA membership throughout the period of the grant if successful. Please confirm eligibility with the Publications & Research Committee Chair before submitting an application.

As with doctoral students applying independently, postdoctoral fellows must include a letter of support from a faculty member confirming institutional affiliation and capacity to complete the proposed research at the proposal stage.

If a postdoctoral fellow was a PhD student at any time during the year they are applying, a student membership is acceptable. If they will hold a postdoctoral position for the entire year, a regular membership is required.

PhD Students

Grants are available only to full-time faculty or enrolled PhD students at Canadian institutions.

CAAA, CAAA–CPA Canada, and CAAA–CBV Institute grants require applicants to be officially enrolled in a PhD program. Applications must include a faculty support letter from the student’s supervisor.

Join the CAAA community to stay informed and prepare for future grant opportunities.

Once enrolled in a PhD program, students can apply for CAAA research grants related to their area of study. Attending CAAA conferences, becoming a member, and networking with faculty can help identify collaborators and stay up to date on funding opportunities.
