Accounting Perspectives Research Assistant posting

The Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA) seeks a Research Assistant for an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion audit of its teaching cases.

Position: Temporary, 12 weeks’ duration 

Location: Remote

Rate: $35 per hour, approximately 120 hours of work

As a Research Assistant on this project, you will collect, evaluate and interpret data about the characters and scenarios in accounting teaching cases. The project supports the progress of the CAAA in its commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging by examining our existing offerings and services through an EDIB lens, and its outcomes will directly impact the future actions of the CAAA and its journal, Accounting Perspectives. Your part of the project will be largely self-directed under the supervision of the Editor in Chief of Accounting Perspectives.

  • Analyse the content of approximately 70 narrative accounting teaching cases using a coding framework
  • Provide explanatory notes on individual analyses where appropriate
  • Prepare informal progress reports for meetings with the Editor in Chief to discuss progress and findings
  • Prepare summaries, data presentation and a final report for the Editor in Chief
  • In collaboration with the Editor in Chief, prepare a report and data presentation for the CAAA Board of Directors
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned depending on the developing requirements of the project.

About you

You are an enthusiastic candidate who is quick to learn and who demonstrates research potential. You are a student currently enrolled in a full-time or part-time program of study in a Canadian institution, and are legally entitled to work in Canada. You hold, or are working towards, a post-graduate degree in a related field. (Please note, we encourage interdisciplinary applications so “related field” may be interpreted widely.) You may currently be working towards a PhD or Master’s, or you can otherwise demonstrate some experience in research. You have experience in data collection, evaluation, tracking and compilation, conducting analysis, and reporting. You have excellent written, communication, and software skills and are a good project manager, able to work independently to deadlines. 

Knowledge of key accounting topics and themes is essential, and experience in/knowledge of case-based learning would be beneficial. Bilingualism is an asset.
