University of WaterlooDirector, School of Accounting and Finance (Posted December 23, 2011) Director, School of Accounting and Finance, University of Waterloo The School of Accounting and Finance, an integral part of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo is seeking a leader to spearhead the School’s development through a continuing phase of rapid growth and change. The Director will have the leadership skills, vision and aspiration to develop the School of Accounting and Finance as the school of choice in Canada for Accounting and Finance in scholarship, teaching, professional development, and student recruitment. The Director must possess outstanding interpersonal skills to inspire faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the external community to raise the School’s national and international profile. Other desirable attributes include a successful record of academic research and teaching to merit an appointment at the rank of full professor, demonstrated experience in administration within a university setting, and strong connections with the business community in Canada. Candidates without extensive academic experience but with appropriate expertise, a proven record of leadership and a commitment to promoting excellence in research and teaching may also be considered. The Director will be accountable for all aspects of the School’s strategy and development including fundraising, operations, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance management and is expected to act in collaboration with colleagues in the Faculty of Arts. The School of Accounting and Finance (saf.uwaterloo.ca/) offers four undergraduate accounting and finance programs in conjunction with the Faculties of Arts, Mathematics, and Science. To complement their classroom studies, undergraduate students undertake at least four complete work-terms of paid employment in diverse financial services roles with our employer partners. In addition, the School offers a Master of Accounting and a Master of Taxation professional program, and a Master of Quantitative Finance Program with the Faculty of Mathematics as well as the largest PhD program in accounting in Canada. The school’s growing faculty of over 40 members comprises a blend of research active tenure-track and tenured faculty who regularly publish in the top academic journals in the field, alongside specialist lecturers and practitioners who bring industry expertise to the classroom. A professional staff of 15 members provides support for the school’s pedagogical and industry-focused mission. The School attracts exceptionally well qualified students into our undergraduate programs; for example, the largest of the programs – Accounting and Financial Management – admits 300 first-year students annually, carefully selected from among 3,000 applications.
