Accounting Perspectives Special Call for Papers: CA-CMA-CGA Merger

Canada’s three accounting associations – the Cas, CGAs and CMAs – are currently in discussion to merge the three professional bodies into a single unified profession under the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. It is anticipated that a decision will be made by summer 2012. Accounting Perspectives seeks to add an academic dimension to the debates leading to this important decision.

Accounting Perspectives invites manuscripts on any aspect of the merger of the profession, international experience with unified and differentiated professions.

The deadline for receiving papers for this special issue is February 21, 2012.

Ottawa, January 3, 2012 - Do you want to play a key role in shaping Canada's domain on the Internet? The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is seeking individuals to join its Nomination Committee.

The Nomination Committee helps build a CIRA Board of Directors that represents a wide range of views and interests as it defines the strategic direction of .CA and contributes to Canadian Internet policy. It plays a critical role in soliciting and selecting qualified Candidates for the Nomination Committee Slate of CIRA's Board of Directors Election.

Applications to become a member of the Nomination Committee will be accepted from January 3, 2012 to January 20, 2012.

  • The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) has established the Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP): For schools wanting a more formal affiliation with The IIA, the IAEP program was created to focus on a quality internal audit curriculum approved by The IIA and a partnership among the local IIA Chapter/Institute, the college/university and The IIA, Inc.  The general conformance of the internal audit curriculum provides practitioners with an understanding of the degree of internal audit education at each of the IAEP program schools.  For more information please click here or visit the IIA website at http://www.theiia.org/.
  • Professor Stephen Salter is seeking Canadian partners to participate in a simulation competition in the Fall or Spring of 2011.  Although most of the current participants use this as an innovative way of teaching Management Accounting to MBAs or high level undergraduates, it has also been used in International Business, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship or as a standalone capstone course. Using Globalsym Euro, an online business simulation where students are assigned the task of running a company in a head-to-head competition against companies managed by other class members, students will be asked to make decisions relating to plant operations, distribution, sales, marketing, and finance.  The challenge is to craft and execute a competitive strategy that results in great financial performance.  Click here for more information.

  • The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) requests views and commentary on "Effective Dates and Transition Methods" for IFRSs.  The Canadian Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) is appealing to Canadians to view its Invitation to Comment "Effective Dates and Transition Methods".  The AcSB is also holding one-hour conference calls.  Please click here for conference call dates.  (December 2010)

At last, a Canadian-based book showing Canadian financial trickery.  Academics should find this book especially helpful because it sets out the backgrounds for a number of Canadian securities swindles.  Classroom discussions can be enhanced by choosing Canadian examples to illustrate reasons for specific financial measurement and disclosure.  Researchers should find the Canadian examples worth pursuing in many ways, by gathering the court records and comparing Canadian litigation decisions to those of other countries Available from Amazon and Chapters/Indigo online, plus most bookstores in Canada.   • New Member of the Accounting Standards Board Sought with an Academic Perspective. The Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is currently seeking a new member to appoint to the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB). AcSOC is looking for an experienced individual committed to the AcSB’s strategic direction, with broad vision, an understanding of accounting concepts, and the ability to anticipate the implications of proposed standards.
