Learning Strategies Exchange CallSubmissions are invited for the Learning Strategies Exchange to be held during the 2012 CAAA Annual Conference taking place in Charlottetown, May 31- June 3, 2012. The Exchange will showcase ideas, research, strategies and education innovations that underlie effective student learning in accounting and accounting-related programs. The Exchange will provide a hands-on opportunity for presenters to explain and discuss their experiences in curriculum, course, and classroom innovation with other conference attendees in an informal and collegial atmosphere. During the conference session, presenters will each be given approximately 5 minutes to explain their learning strategy followed by an informal small group question and answer period. Those attending the conference will have the opportunity to learn and take away concrete ideas from these sessions. Prior year’s presentations included an Excel-based bond model, student-run tax preparation service and an Introductory Accounting small business practice set. Without limiting the possible topics, the following represent some ideas of the type of initiatives envisaged:
Submitters (or one member in a group submission) must be CAAA members. A one-to-two page proposal (as a Word document) for your teaching strategy, including its objectives, the outcomes or findings of the innovation or project, and the key messages of the session should be emailed to Penny Parker (PParker@fanshawec.ca) by February 9, 2012. The peer review of submissions will be completed and notifications sent by the end of March 2012. To preserve anonymity, email the cover page (with your name and contact information) and the submission document as separate files within one e-mail. A submission for the Innovation Award can also be a submission for the Learning Strategies Exchange — just indicate on your cover sheet for the Innovation Award that you wish to apply to both. *The CAAA/CGA-Canada travel subsidy is awarded by the Executive Director in consultation with the Chair of the Education Committee to worthy applicants participating in education-related activities at the CAAA Annual Conference. The subsidies are aimed at making participation in these activities possible for post-secondary educators who would otherwise be unable to attend. There is a maximum of $1,000 for any single award. The primary criterion is need. As funds are limited, there is an element of first-come, first-served as well. The winning applicants will be chosen between mid- and end-April, to allow them to make economical travel plans. |
