CAAA Annual Conference 2006: Welcome to Niagara Falls!

 

 

The next CAAA Annual Conference will be held Monday June 5 through Thursday June 8, 2006 at the Sheraton-on-the-Falls hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The conference theme Accounting and Accountability addresses the role accounting can play in ensuring that individuals, corporations and governments are accountable to the stakeholders they serve.  

Conference Papers

This year 78 papers were submitted. All were screened by the Scientific Committee to evaluate their suitability for presentation. Authors will be notified of accepted papers in March. Discussants will critique each accepted paper at the Conference. We still welcome members wanting to serve as discussants or session chairs to volunteer at the following link: http://hq.ssrn.com/conference=CAAA-2006-Conf .  

Francophone Program

New this year will be a Francophone program stream integrated in the main conference program where papers will be presented and discussed in French. In addition, a special session entitled Qualitative research in accounting: Overview and demystification will be offered by Yves Gendron (University of Alberta) as part of the Francophone conference program. This session will address methodological issues in qualitative research as well as challenges and opportunities for publishing qualitative research in accounting journals.

Rates are $149/ night for a traditional room and $199/night for a room with a view of the Falls with a limited number of interior rooms available to PhD students for $99 per night.  

This is the only hotel located directly in front of Niagara Falls at the base of Clifton Hill and the Falls Avenue Entertainment complex. The hotel features two swimming pools and the Fallsview spa and fitness center. In addition, the hotel is connected by a walkway to the Fallsview Indoor Water Park and Falls Avenue attractions.

Transportation and Niagara Tourism Information

Access by air to Niagara Falls is best made through either Toronto, Hamilton, or Buffalo international airports. Transportation can be booked to Niagara Falls from the airports by either rental car or shuttle. Details concerning ground transportation will be provided soon.

Plenary Sessions

Several distinguished speakers will participate in plenary sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. For example, we are honored to welcome the M. Charles Antoine St.-Jean, the Comptroller General of Canada who will discuss the major efforts he is spearheading to improve accounting in the federal government. In addition, we will have a session entitled Student Learning: Models, Methods, and Making it Count featuring Susan Wolcott, Ernest Biktimirov, and Chris Duff. Wednesday Night Social Event

On Wednesday evening, we will travel by double-decker bus from the hotel along the Niagara Parkway to Hillebrand Estates Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a tour of the winery and a gourmet dinner. More information about the winery is available at:
