CAAA ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2012

Charlottetown, PEI
Delta Prince Edward Hotel
Thursday, May 31 - Sunday, June 3, 2012

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION SESSIONS AND AWARDS

Over the past few years, the educational component of the CAAA has increased significantly, thanks to contributions from outstanding educators who are making significant changes to the way we teach.  For the 2012 conference, the CAAA encourages educators to:

  • Submit a research paper related to accounting education (content or process) (each submission team must have at least one CAAA member).  The scholarship of teaching and learning has become a significant and recognized form of research and the Education Committee is committed to showcasing such work at the conference.  All submissions will be peer-reviewed and authors will receive the review comments.
  • Write an original accounting case and submit it for the Case Competition Award (each submission team must have at least one CAAA member).  The Education Committee has both an English and French case competition.  This year we particularly encourage cases that could be used within a regular 90 minute undergraduate class.
  • Submit a description of an innovation in class education (process or content) for the “Howard Teall Innovation in Accounting Education" Award (each submission team must have at least one CAAA member).  In conjunction with the Howard Teall award, all submissions will be encouraged to participate in the Learning Strategies Exchange session at the conference.  This session is a fantastic way to share your innovation with others and see what other educators are doing across the country.
  • Nominate someone for the L.S. Rosen “Outstanding contribution to Education”  Award
  • Encourage your students to enter the “Estey Essay Competition” sponsored by the Centre for Accounting Ethics at the University of Waterloo.
  • Submit a proposal for the Challenges in Accounting Education session.  This session is run as a quick round table discussion format where each host will facilitate discussion four times during the session with up to eight discussions taking place simultaneously.  Proposals for being a table host should include a 100 word description of the topic. Proposals that include group discussion and other active-learning components are preferred. Send to: Norman Sheehan at sheehan@edwards.usask.ca
  • Submit a proposal to share your favorite teaching case.  We are planning a session this year where between five and eight participants will share their favorite teaching case, the outcomes from using the case, and tips for using the case.  Proposals should include the title of the case, the source of the case (i.e. Ivey, Harvard, etc), and a quick description of why this case is your favorite, and brief stories about past classroom outcomes from using the case. Send to: Jamison Aldcorn at jamison.aldcorn@senecac.on.ca

Stay posted for more information in the coming months.
