President's Message

Seasons Greetings!

I hope you have all had a productive and rewarding fall term, both in the classroom, or in your research and outreach activities.  The CAAA has remained in full swing this fall, highlighted by the 24th annual CAR conference held in Old Montréal.  My thanks to Michel Magnan for hosting this wonderful event, and to Lesley Falkner and her staff for their first class organizational support.  My thanks also to our major conference sponsor, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.  This year marked the third and final CAR conference for Michel and I was privileged to help thank him at the social event, attended by his many colleagues and friends, for his dedication both to our journal and to the CAAA.  Amazingly, next year in Kingston will mark the 25th hosting of the CAR conference!  This represents an incredible legacy for our association, and I hope you are able to attend.  I know that Steve Salterio, our incoming CAR editor, is eager to continue building upon this great highlight in the CAAA calendar of events.

I am also extremely delighted to announce that Amin Mawani from the Schulich School of Business at York University will become our next editor of Accounting Perspectives.  Amin is an enthusiastic supporter of AP and its mission to bring our research and writing to the practicing accounting community, and he has some great ideas for building on the existing success of the journal.  I encourage all of you to lend your support to Amin in fulfilling the mission of the journal.  I would also like to thank Efrim Boritz for his untiring dedication to the journal for the four years of his term as Editor, as well as his many contributions to the broader activities of the Association.  Thank you Efrim!

Our planning and organization is also in full swing for the 2010 Annual Conference being held in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia from May 27-29, 2010.  Suresh Kalagnanam, Scientific Committee Chair and Sandy Hilton, Education Committee Chair, are working hard to present another can’t miss event for all of our members.  This is the case whether your interest is in accounting research or education, or in having an opportunity to renew old acquaintances, or make new ones, all in one of Canada’s most beautiful cities – no doubt still basking in gold medal fever!  I encourage all of you to plan your trip to Vancouver, and to support Suresh and Sandy in making the conference a rewarding experience.

Finally, I want to wish all of you the best of the holiday season, and a happy and healthy new year.

Sincerely,

Gary Entwistle
